I have to say that Art is one of my favorite things to do. It has been my passion since I was 10 years old. I believe it is a gift God gave to me to share. It is also my favorite thing to get involved with young people and to see their hearts and minds expand into another world. Art is like a quiet place where you the Artist can go to retrieve beautiful and lively things for others to see. I have struggled a lot with how do we express ourselves to others and they understand what we are saying. So I have tried many avenues and I believe God has opened doors to me and the children to discover who He is in a more real and intimate way. Which makes me sooooo excited! I love God for letting me express myself in this way. I'm at this time working on some art pieces that reflect the cross and why we have one to carry. And Also he gives me little art jobs that I can do for my brothers and sisters.
I have a story to tell.
Last year, before I knew my in-laws were moving here, I received a phone call from a woman who wanted some art work drawn for her husband's tombstone. Well, I thought that was interesting. I have never done that before so I said I could and we met each other at the Village Coffee House.
Well, it turned out she wanted 3 drawings done. A large one to go across the tombstone which approximately was 2ft X 4ft. And 2 drawings a little smaller than 16x20.
So I didn't know for sure if I could do these because by that time my in-laws were here and I was going to be busy with them.
I felt though I couldn't let this lady down either because she had been trying to get this done for two years. Her husband had been dead already 2 years and the various people they had before gave her the run around. So she needed help.
It took me about 6 months to finish these pieces. They always seemed grateful and excited for the drawings. One time I had finished one of them which was her husband in a baseball outfit on the field. I didn't expect her to be so emotional but she cried looking at my drawing of him. I was amazed that my work would stir someone. Even though it was a personal thing to her, I was excited that it touched her so. The other drawings were of her when she was a post master in Milledgeville in front of her post office and the large one was of their home on their property filled with cattle and trees, etc.
Well, the moral of the story: I have a personal legacy to pass on to my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. Just like Van Gogh or Michelangelo, my art work will be seen for generations to come. And I won't make lots of money doing it. I know now God has a sense of humor. It's on a tombstone! It just makes me smile and laugh inside!
